We live in a world where we have everything at our fingertips thanks to smartphones. So, I completely understand why the idea of unplugging might seem strange and even a little scary. However, this summer, I decided to take the plunge (just as I did last summer) and disconnect from my smartphone once again, opting instead for my minimalist Light Phone. Everytime I turn to my Light Phone for a break, it profoundly impacts my well-being, beauty, and overall quality of life.
This friendly reminder of my Light Phone started out of necessity a couple weeks ago. My smartphone took a tumble and broke from an accidental drop. While waiting for my new phone to arrive, I found that I really enjoyed my time away from the notifications and the horrible habit of picking up my phone every few minutes.
The Light Phone is a simple, distraction-free phone designed to help users break free from the constant notifications and endless apps of traditional smartphones. It’s a device that encourages intentionality, offering basic functions like calling and texting without the bells and whistles. Additionally, it provides simple ways to enjoy your phone beyond calls and texts, with features like music, podcasts, directions, calendar, notes, and more. Many of my friends say it reminds them of a Kindle Phone due to its minimalist design and black and gray paper like screen.
My journey with the Light Phone is not new; I first embraced it a few summers ago when I was seeking more peace and balance, and it turned out to be the perfect fit.
1. Inner Peace and Calmness
One of the most significant changes I noticed after switching to the Light Phone was an overwhelming sense of peace. Without the constant overstimulating sound of notifications from every app, I found myself feeling more relaxed and less anxious. The simplicity of the Light Phone allows me to focus on the present moment, free from the distractions that typically come with a smartphone.
2. Enhanced Productivity
Surprisingly, my productivity soared. Without the temptation of social media, or other apps, I was able to channel my energy into more meaningful tasks. Whether it was work-related projects or personal hobbies, I found myself completing tasks more efficiently and with greater satisfaction. I also went back to some past slow living content from the past, such as magazines, books and more. I found that I was more social and really wanted to get out more and explore.
3. Being Present
Using the Light Phone forced me to be more present in my interactions. Instead of constantly checking my phone, I engaged in deeper, more meaningful conversations with friends and family. This newfound presence enriched my relationships and allowed me to create lasting memories.
4. A Calmer Mindset
The constant connectivity of smartphones can often lead to a restless mind. By disconnecting, I noticed a significant decrease in stress levels. The Light Phone’s minimalist design helped me cultivate a calmer mindset, which had a positive ripple effect on other areas of my life.
Interestingly, unplugging from my smartphone also had a noticeable impact on my beauty. Here’s how:
1. Better Sleep
Without the blue light from my smartphone screen disrupting my sleep patterns, I began to enjoy deeper, more restorative sleep. This improved my skin’s appearance, reducing dark circles and promoting a healthy glow.
2. Reduced Stress
As stress levels decreased, so did the stress-related skin issues. I noticed fewer breakouts and a clearer complexion. The peace of mind that came with using the Light Phone contributed to a healthier, more radiant look.
3. More Time for Self-Care
With less time spent scrolling through social media, I found more time to invest in my self-care routine. Whether it was a relaxing bath, a face mask, or simply taking a few moments to meditate, the extra time allowed me to focus on nurturing my body and mind.
While I cherish the simplicity of the Light Phone, there are moments when I still need my smartphone. I bring it with me, but only pop the SIM card in for emergencies or work-related tasks that require access to client notes. This balance allows me to stay connected when necessary without falling back into old habits of constant smartphone use.
Embracing the Light Phone this summer will be just what I need and whether I will go back, thats still up in the air. If you asked me right now, I would defintely say not anytime soon. I feel too free, at peace and creative to even think about having access to the things on my smart phone that distract me.
If you’re considering a digital detox or looking for ways to simplify your life, I highly recommend giving the Light Phone a try. It just might be the refreshing change you need to find your own peace and beauty this summer.
