Winter and my skin have a complicated relationship.

Between the heater running all night, dry air doing its absolute worst, and my skin being combination and very capable of throwing a breakout tantrum, I’ve learned that winter skincare has to be protective, hydrating, and uncomplicated.

If I wake up plump, calm, and ready for makeup, I know I’ve done it right.

Here’s exactly what I’ve been doing lately and why it’s working so beautifully.

Nighttime: Protect, Seal, and Let My Skin Chill

At night, my main goal is simple:
protect my skin from dry air and wake up hydrated, not greasy, not broken out.

Step 1: Cleanse with a Cleansing Oil

I start by cleansing with this gentle cleansing oil Sunshine Dew. Nothing harsh, nothing foamy, nothing that leaves my skin feeling tight and sad. Just a good oil cleanse, rinse, done.

Winter is not the time to fight your skin.

Quick tip: If you skin is tight after cleansing, that is not a good thing. You need to adjust your cleansing routine.

Step 2: Marina (My Skin’s Nighttime Glass of Water)

After cleansing, I go in with Marina.

This is one of those products that feels instantly calming the second it hits your skin. It’s lightweight, deeply hydrating, and somehow manages to make my skin feel nourished without feeling heavy or sticky.

For combination skin that can break out easily (hi, it’s me), this is huge.
I’ve had zero breakouts using this, which is honestly my main requirement for winter skincare.

Step 3: Nymph Balm (The Cozy Blanket)

To finish my nighttime routine, I top everything with Nymph Balm.

This is the step that really locks everything in. Think of it as sealing your skin in for the night so the heater can’t steal all your moisture while you sleep.

It’s rich but not pore-clogging, and again, my breakout-prone skin has been totally happy with it. I wake up looking rested, hydrated, and way more “alive” than I deserve to look in the morning.

Morning: Do Less (Your Skin Will Thank You)

Here’s the thing.
When your nighttime routine is doing its job, you don’t need to pile things on in the morning.

In the morning, I use just one thing:

Mermaid Milk

That’s it.

Mermaid Milk is lightweight, hydrating, and makes my skin feel instantly comfortable. It sinks in beautifully and creates the perfect base for makeup without slipping, pilling, or doing anything weird.

My skin already feels plump from the night before, so this is just a gentle refresh that gets me ready for the day.

And yes, my makeup applies so much better when my skin is hydrated but not overloaded.
