How to Choose Makeup Colors That Actually

Work

For me, color isn’t about seasons or “best shades.” Thats totally boring and even more confusing than you realize.

It’s about understanding how color interacts with you — your features, your contrast, and how you want to feel.

WHY COLOR FEELS SO CONFUSING

The same lipstick, blush, or eyeshadow can look fresh on one person and completely off on another — even with the same skin tone.

Color Isn’t Universal

Lighting, contrast, feature softness, and personal style all change how color reads. Tutorials rarely explain this.

Most Advice Ignores Context

Most people are searching for the correct shade, when what actually matters is how color responds to your face.

We’re Taught to Look for “Right” Instead of “Responsive”

When you’re inches from your face, everything feels louder.
That’s not how people see you — and it’s why color often feels “too much” during application.

WHAT ACTUALLY MAKES COLOR WORK

Color works when it:

  • Supports your features instead of overpowering them
  • Feels adjustable (not locked into one look)
  • Makes your skin look clearer, not heavier
  • Matches the energy you want — not a category you were assigned

This is why copying shades rarely works.

3. Adjust, Don’t Commit

Most great color results come from small shifts — not perfect matches or dramatic changes.

This is where confidence replaces guessing.

2. Test in Context

Color should be tested with your face, hair, and clothing — not alone on a strip or screen.

1. Observe Before You Choose

Notice how your features respond to color — brightness, softness, depth — before deciding what “should” work.

This is not:
  • Seasonal color typing
  • A list of “best shades”
  • A one-size-fits-all system
  • Trend-based advice

Color confidence comes from understanding, not categorizing.

HOW I WORK WITH COLOR

In my studio, color is explored with you, not assigned to you.

We test, adjust, and observe how color feels — so you can make confident choices without overthinking or second-guessing.

If you want to explore color deeply and understand how it connects to your makeup as a whole, The Beauty Breakthrough VIP is designed for that work.

All of the makeup I use is cruelty-free. Always.

Not only do I meticulously research and choose furry-friend friendly products for your beauty experience, but I also give back a portion of my profits to an animal charity that protects animals from cruelty, exploitation, and other abuses. I choose to do this for all the living creatures who don't get a choice.

I love animals, and I think it’s an atrocity that 500,000 animals are harmed and killed each year for the sake of cosmetics testing. This does not have to happen.

That’s why all of the makeup I use is cruelty-free. Always.
